My favorite fish is Flathead. I have been using fresh bait like prawns and squid on a short fishing rod with light line and a medium sized weights, usually a long shank hook (NO.2). This type of set up will normally get results, on a warm summers day drifting along the rivers and estuaries will most likely catch a flathead….
I have also been catching good size flathead using soft plastics.
I take off for the weekend to a place called Rainbow Beach where I walk the waters edge using a fishing rod with a short handle and my favorite bait a pumpkin seed plastic lure soaked in aniseed oil with a light weighted jig head.
Simply flicking the lure around the waters edge, finding drop off points and warmer water holes is so much fun and actually producing large flathead….
